The Secretary
by Catherine Hokin

Good WW2 Historical Fiction told from two viewpoints. You have the 1940's viewpoint of Magda, and the 1989/90's viewpoint of her Granddaughter Nina.

Very good queer fantasy! The world building is great, and the characters pop. The one weakness is that the antagonist feels a bit two dimentional, but that's common with trans people writing TERFs, they just don't make sense to us.

Brilliant depiction of how to deal with mental health in a relationship (spoiler: don't only use your partner for support!). This is going to impact how I write characters myself, honestly.

Some things didn't age as smoothly as they could've post COVID, but overall a solid, enjoyable book about the apocalypse!

Very good, though the narration felt slippery.
